The two youngest entries in the tournament were 14 year-old doubles partners ADDISON APPLEBY and RYAN ROSEN. These San Diego natives were Freshmen in high school competing against some of the top players in the country. Their first match was against a pair from the nationally ranked No. 5 USC Trojans.
Q: What was it like playing against a college team, a nationally ranked college team?
APPLEBY: They had some crazy serves!
ROSEN: We tried to have fun with it. We just played and there was no pressure.
Q: You're only Freshmen in high school but have you been thinking about playing tennis in college?
APPLEBY: Yeah I want to. I'd like to play DI tennis but we'll see.
ROSEN: I also want to play DI and I'd like to go to the East Coast or stay in SoCal
Q: Why did you choose tennis over other sports?
APPLEBY: I like it because it's an individual sport. You don't have to rely on teammates.
ROSEN: It's a fun sport and I'm good at it.
Q: What equipment do you use?
APPLEBY: A Head racket and Tecnifibre strings
ROSEN: A Babolat racket with Revenge and Tecnifibre strings
